tea production often involves chemical fertilizers and herbicides. the use of these chemicals had greatly threatened the survival of Emerald tree frogs – inhabitants of the tea garden in northern Taiwan. But in the past few years tea farmers had adopted a more organic way of tea production without the use of these harmful chemicals, significantly improving the habitat of Emerald tree frogs and allowing them to propagate. this frog species is endemic to Taiwan and is among the Red List of Threatened Species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. the New Taipei City Government has awarded environmental conservation medals to tea farmers for putting efforts in the Emerald tree frog conservation, encouraging conservation and, at the same time, adding value to their tea products.
