snared lion rescued

lion love

Three years ago, a few tourists spotted a lion whose neck was caught in a poacher’s snare at the Mikumi National Park in Tanzania; the lion vanished before any rescue attempts could be executed. The snare had become so tightly wrapped around his neck as he grew in size, making it unable to hunt and almost impossible to eat. But thanks to his siblings who brought him back prey they had hunted, he survived. Throughout these years, seven occasional attempts failed due to the demanding terrain and the vast size of the park had rendered the search and rescue extremely difficult. Fortunately the lion was rescued by rangers earlier this year and the snare was removed; the lion is now released back into the wild and gradually recovering.
