chinese crested tern

chinese legend bird

the chinese crested tern was thought extinct until they reappeared in the recent years. due to hunting and egg collection for food, these birds wasn’t recorded for over 60 years. researchers believed they have been living on the Matsu Islands ( a military restricted area in taiwan), but there are only around 50 of them, and now that area has became a conservation area for the birds. on the other side, other groups are working on a restoration project; by placing tern models with playbacks of their calls, they successfully attracted the terns to breed on the islands in the Fujian Province with 13 new born chicks so far.極度瀕危-神話之鳥-再現中華-215813590.html
