ivory trade in hong kong



hong kong government banned the import and export of ivory 25 years ago, but trading of ivory that was registered before the ban is still legal. china banned all sales of ivory, so visitors from mainland china would come to hong kong for ivory and then illegally smuggled to china. many of the ivory are being passed off as old ivory or even from the extinct mammoth. hong kong is the city with the most ivory trade in the world.
