The demand of durian is increasing in the Chinese market, and durian tours is becoming more popular for the tourists in the region on Raub in Malaysia. A company linked to the local government is going to clear over 1200 hectares of forest for durian plantation, and this project does not need permission for their forestry department. The land they are aiming is a protected area where the critically endangered Malayan tiger lives; this plantation not only will destroy home of these tigers, breaking up the forest will affect the wildlife movement as well.
