high levels of microplastics in turtle nesting sites

The beaches in Cyprus are important nesting sites for the endangered green and loggerhead turtles. study found 17 beaches used as their nesting sites are all with very high level of microplastics, and is the second highest among beaches across the world. These micro plastics are mainly from industrial waste and broken pieces of larger pieces waste. These plastic is causing the nest temperature to increase, threatening the success rate of turtle hatching and affect the sex of turtles being born.
