trawling in europe marine protected areas

marine protected areas are worse

29% of Europe’s waters is marine protected areas and industrials activities are banned within these areas. but study found trawling, a form of industrial fishing, occurs in 59% of these protected area, and the number of trawling activity is 40% higher then unprotected areas! the number of some endangered species like sharks and rays in the unprotected areas are 5 times higher than in the protected areas. these marine protected areas did ban activities like mining and dumping, but did not ban industrial fishing activities like trawling, and ended up damaging these areas with rich marine life.
