nosie pollution underwater

the increasing number of ship traffic and seismic survey is creating serious noise pollution to the ocean, and affecting migration, reproduction and communications of marine creatures. seismic air guns are used for finding oil and gas deep under the ocean floor. each of these seismic shot creates noise that is up to 260 underwater decibels; as water is much denser than air, the sounds underwater can travel faster and farther than on land. marine creatures like whales, dolphin and even plankton are all affected. plankton is an important food source for many marine creatures; a study in 2017 found that each and every seismic shot could kills large amount of plankton, killing around 2/3 of the plankton in the affected area.
